Inquiry Blog #2 (Project Plan) – “To what extent does gender discrimination influence the world and people in our society?”

My research is about Gender discrimination based on gender (or sex) is a common civil rights violation that takes many forms, including sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, and unequal pay for women who do the same jobs as men. It has been proven to be very active in worldwide countries. Whether it be the “less developed” or “well developed” countries. However, for this research project, I’ve decided to break it down into three main steps:

  1. Where Gender discrimination occur & how? ( the stereotypes, statistics, etc…)

My first section will be the places where Gender discrimination occurs because we all know the most popular place is at workplaces, but I believe that it happens almost everywhere in the world. I will also research how it occurs in certain places as well as the statistics, stereotypes, and many more to be able to fully answer the main question.

  1. The impacts on males (morally, personally, professionally, etc…)

My second part of the research will be about the impacts it has on a young boy and men’s personal, professional lives as well as morally because many scientists have proved that situation similar to gender discrimination has a huge impact on their mental health. which leads them to certain diseases. Therefore, researching about the impacts on male’s life, it will help answer my main question

  1. The impacts on females (morally, personally, professionally, etc…)

My third section will be about the impacts on the females because many types of research have found that female get more affected by difficult situations, but for this one, I’ll be focusing on how living in a society where gender discrimination is active have an impact on females. This section will also be related to my main question of how it influences people in our society and the world.

Implications to other individuals/or my community:

I believe my research is a worldwide problematic based problem about gender inequalities. It is something that is active everywhere. Even the little elementary children are facing these types of inequalities and are learning about the stereotypes. therefore, doing my research on this topic and seeing the different perspectives of how it affects out people in the community and the world would implicate a lot to other individuals and children in my community because they will be able to learn and know how gender inequalities are occurring so that our young and future generation can take a chance and help put an end to gender discrimination.

Anyhow, If there are any reliable sources, videos or documentaries you want to share, I’m open.

Thank you in advance 🙂

  1. Hi Lokshana,

You definitely picked an important topic for your project. So obviously you know that gender discrimination is an issue so you took your question to the next level by asking to what extent does gender discrimination influence the world and people. I also like that you decided to look at the male and female perspective for your last two questions because I think it’s important to know how both groups feel and are treated. My suggestion to you would be to answer this question with a general “world” view but also look at it in your own community. Can you find examples of gender discrimination around you? Are there ways to prevent it? How seriously do the people you know take this topic? I’m hoping that by giving you some questions you can create a project with your own style to it. Research that only you can have by asking people around you and giving your own opinions.

Here are some articles that may help with your research.

    1. Hello Shieva,
thank you so much for the ideas. I will definitely take it into considerations when doing my research. As matter of fact, I was thinking something along those lines, but you suggested it 🙂 now I definitely try to include it.

I was thinking of including in my first part of my research “Where Gender discrimination occur & how? ( the stereotypes, statistics, etc…)” …
Do you think it would be good?

  2. Hi Lokshana!

I’m really looking forward to reading your posts, because this is a topic that is very interesting to me. As Shieva mentioned, I loved how you decided to look into how gender discrimination affects men as well, because I find that people often forget that it goes both ways. Gender stereotypes and discrimination affect all of us, whether it’s obvious or not. It might be cool to do some sort of survey and ask people how they feel they’ve been affected by gender discrimination in their lives. It could be interesting to get some information from people in your community. I know there was previously a way to make a survey on the butterfly effect website, but I’m not sure if there still is.

    Good luck with your research,
    -Jasmine Paduraru

    1. Hi Jasmine,

thank you so much for mentioning the option of creating a survey on the butterfly effect website. I didn’t we could do that, I’ll look more into that 🙂

  4. Hi Lokshana

Actually gender inequality is every where in the world. People tend to believe that the work of the female is to do home chores or do small jobs.
Females also have that idea that only male can do those big jobs or be a leader. Females world wide are more than males so if they decide to uplift each other it may work.
Educating the young people about gender is also good since they will no longer encourage gender discrimination.

    1. Hi Denis,
I definitely agree with you! and yes you have made a good point about teaching our young generation to end the root of gender discrimination.
