About me-Ronnie Yau

Hi everyone!

My name is Ronnie. I’m 15 years old and I am currently in eleventh grade studying in Charle Best secondary. Growing up, my mother spoke multiple languages. I guess it had a pretty big influence on my life because language courses have been my favourite. My favourite subject would be Spanish. I’ve been studying it for over 6 years and I don’t wish to stop learning it. It’s a beautiful language and I think it is very useful since it is the second most spoken language in the world. I am also fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English of course. I am passionate about learning new things, especially languages. As of now, I am studying Italian and Korean. I believe that through learning a different languages, we can understand ideas and thoughts that may be different from our own culture. This is one of my stronger attributes too, being able to communicate clearly in different languages.

My goal is to become a therapist or a counsellor. Growing up I had friends and family who suffered from different mental illnesses. I’ve seen how powerful it is and how they much they can take away from your life. So I guess that inspired me to help people reconnect with themselves, heal from their past and craft a healthier future. I don’t talk much, which is one of the reasons why I’m a great listener. My friends would describe me as easy-going and calm. I rarely freakout and I can keep myself together during stressful times. That’s why my friends love coming to me for advice when they run into a problem, or when they just don’t feel like themselves. This is also another reason why I want to become a therapist. I love helping people. I don’t want them to feel like they are alone battling with their demons. I want them to know we all sometimes struggle in this life. This year, I want to take it one step further. That’s why I took Social Responsibility course, hoping to help more people in many different ways.

I don’t look very athletic and I am not at all, so the one thing about me that might surprise others is that I used to love boxing. I still do, I’m just not allowed to do it, at least for a little while. Boxing is my favourite sport, and the only sport I truly liked. I boxed with a personal trainer for about 2 years. Unfortunately, I injured myself so I had to stop. Shortly after, we moved to Vancouver and my mom would not let me box anymore, afraid that I would hurt myself again.

When I’m free I love to ice skate and hang out with my friends. But because of covid, I can’t skate as often. ๐Ÿ™ย  These are some pictures I took with my friends this summer!

Thanks for reading! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Hi Ronnie. I also agree with you that learning many languages is the best because it helps you communicate fluently. If I had had a chance
I would also like to learn a foreign language like Spanish.
It is also good to help people as you have said because in this world there are many of them who need our help. I am like you when it comes to freaking out because I keep myself together during stressful moments.
