About me- Nikki Shahram

Hi! My name is Nikki and I’m a grade ten student at Charles Best Secondary. I am Persian-Canadian, and I often see both cultures in my day to day life. I joined butterfly effect to meet new people and explore my interests.

I have a variety of interests, both in academics and in extra curricular activities. My favorite topic is science, specifically theoretical and futuristic ideas. Politics are also something I find fascinating, though I haven’t studied it much. I enjoy doing research on topics of interest. Despite many of my interests being academic subjects, I also have an interest in music. I have been playing the piano for five years now. My focus is around classical music, and being classically trained. It can be tiring to practice technique so often, but in the end I enjoy it. Some other things I enjoy include, drawing portraits, reading, and trying things, especially food. I also love listening to music.  My favorite genres are very contrasting. I enjoy listening to HipHop, R&B, and classical music.

I look forward to meeting new people, and working on my inquiry projects!

  1. Hi Nikki,

Nice to meet you, I also really like science, I am currently Honouring in physiology at UBC and there are tons theoritical research going on at the labs here. There are labs testing the relationships of diabetes and cancer, how certain chemicals react, and many more intresting inovations. I also have many genres of music that I like, but I think my favourite one right now is r&b

  2. Hi Nikki! It was super interesting reading your post even though I have known you for some time now. I find it really cool that you maintain an interest in the sciences which I personally find to be some of the most interesting subjects to look into; sometimes non-fiction can be weirder than fiction! My only question for you is this: You mentioned that you are interested in theoretical and futuristic scientific ideas. What subjects are we talking about specifically here? AI and the advancement of robot learning? The exploration of our solar system? Revolutionary medical advancements and procedures? I would very much like to know!

    1. Hi Victor! Sorry for late reply I am still trying to figure out the way the comments work. I agree with what you say about non-fiction! It can be overwhelming and exciting to think about the future of science. I am interested in all of the areas you mentioned! Lately, I have been more interested in gene editing and how our world would change with such technologies. AI advancement, though we should be mindful, is going to play a huge role in our future world. It is already starting to appear in our day to day lives, becoming more and more intelligent. The exploration of our solar system also interests me a great amount, though I believe it is somewhat out of reach. We should definitely discuss these topics in a proper conversation!

  3. HI NIKII!
It was fun reading about you and the things you like. When did you start learning the piano ? I also like curricular activities my favorite thing to do when I am bored is either listening to or singing. I also like listening to hip hop music just like you. Do you have a favorite musician. I noticed you said you liked drawing what types of pictures do you draw? I would like to know you better nice chatting with you.

    1. Hi!!
I started learning the piano at ten, but I have fallen in love with it! I don’t think I could choose a favorite musician, but there are certain classical musicians I admire. Anna Fedorova is definitely very inspiring to me. I like to draw realistic portraits but I am trying to expand my style and explore 🙂 I look forward to chatting with you!
